Something happened last Thursday that I cannot stop thinking about, so I will just tell it the way it went. I have a 2011 Maserati GranTurismo that I bought from a friend two years ago, and I mostly drive it to the office and on weekend coffee runs. When I turned the AC on after the car sat in the sun all afternoon, a smell came out of the vents like burnt dust, the kind you get when you switch on a heater after summer. It lasted maybe a minute and then faded, and the air turned cold like normal. I thought it was a one time thing, but it came back on Saturday and again this morning. My wife says it is only old dust in the vents. My friend who sold me the car says Italian cars always have some strange smells and I should relax. My cousin, who works near the workshops, said a burnt smell should never be ignored because it can come from the blower motor or a wire getting hot. I did not like the sound of that, so one night I read about it and opened a page about Maserati cars on a Sharjah website to understand how the blower, the resistor and the wiring behind the dashboard work together. It explained that a burnt dust smell can be harmless, but that a plastic or electrical smell is different and should be checked soon. That helped me learn what to smell for. Then a colleague told me to look for an instead of going to the agency, because he said agencies often charge a lot just to open the dashboard. I am not sure if that is true, but I would like to compare visit here https://caracrepairsharjah.ae/brands/maserati. So here are my questions. How can I tell the difference between a harmless dust smell and a real electrical problem? Is it safe to keep using the AC for short drives until it is checked, or should I stop now? Should the garage test the blower motor and the resistor before changing anything? Also, how much of the dashboard has to come apart on a GranTurismo, and does that make the job expensive? If you had a smell like this on your Maserati, please tell me what the cause was and roughly what you paid. Thanks a lot.
